Monahans

Austin-based band Monahans, named for the desolate West Texas sand hills, balances thundering rhythms and atmospheric “landscape rock” with urgent pop anthems and spiritual campfire balladry. Since their 2006 inception, Monahans have toured in support of Cowboy Junkies, Centro-matic, J. Tillman & Magnolia Electric Co. Their records have featured guest vocal performances by Sinead O’Connor, Will Johnson of Centro-matic and Margo Timmons of Cowboy Junkies. Albums to date include Low Pining (2007, Undertow) and the 2009 Misra debut Dim The Aurora.

The current lineup includes Ramble Creek studio engineer/producer Britton Beisenherz, Roberto Sanchez and Greg Vanderpool (both former Milton Mapes members), and longtime Spoon bassist Joshua Zarbo.

The Work

Monahans’ music is the backdrop for much of the new Whataburger campaign. The band contributed 9 songs for a total of 15 spots to the latest ad campaign for the Texas-based restaurant now legendary across the South. The landscape-inspired rock has proven the perfect anthem to an all-American brand.

In addition to Whataburger, Monahans has also been featured in several TV spots for Chevrolet, a branded film for Alex Boguski’s project COMMON and much more.
